Lights, Camera, & Action! New Media Writing and Literacy

As an aspiring filmmaker, venturing into the world of new media writing was an eye-opening experience. The course challenged me to adapt my storytelling for platforms like social media and interactive websites, pushing me to think creatively and explore new storytelling techniques.

My knowledge of new media interactions has been greatly influenced by a few particular projects, such as designing a choose-your-own-adventure story or a social media campaign. Compared to traditional filmmaking, this project demonstrated the ability of new media platforms to produce a more dynamic and engaging experience.

Here's where I think filmmakers can make a difference.  I'm excited to use my skills in storytelling to create captivating interactive narratives and video scripts that combine the finest elements of new and film media. Of course, acting responsibly when using the internet. I'll always put respect first, stay away from damaging prejudices, and get permission before recording an individual.  My passion for storytelling has grown as an outcome of this course, and I can't wait to apply my filmmaking abilities to create relatable material for viewers in this wonderful online world.

Understanding the perspectives of journalism, public relations, marketing, audience analysis, and feedback analysis is crucial for navigating the ever-evolving landscape of new media. Journalism provides the foundation of truth and accuracy, while public relations helps craft compelling narratives.  Marketing teaches how to target and engage audiences, while audience analysis ensures your message resonates.  Finally, feedback analysis allows you to constantly refine your content based on audience response.  By considering these diverse viewpoints, I can create new media content that is informative, engaging, and impactful.

However, the exciting world of new media also presents challenges, especially regarding copyright laws.  Understanding fair use and copyright restrictions is essential to avoid infringing on the work of others.  This can be complex, especially when incorporating multimedia elements like music and images.  However, by staying informed and respecting intellectual property rights, I can ensure my new media creations are original and legally sound.
